Have you ever thought about body image in the lense of survival skills?

When we are having these conversations and thoughts, it's important to remember that someone changing their body can open them up to so many more opportunities that they would have not gotten otherwise because of the world we live in including the opportunity to "fit in".

A survival skill is "a technique that someone may use to sustain life in any type of natural or built environment". A black person in a larger body wanting to lose weight is a survival skill to have one less thing that makes them "different" and stand out.

Think about it in the context of trauma. It is a survival skill for someone who went through a traumatic experience looking one way to want to change how they look to and are perceived by society.

Let's dig deeper when we talk about body image.
